Some leads start out small but turn into something huge. That is exactly what happened when Jim reached out to us. He stated he recently bought a home in Detroit, Michigan, and the previous owners left most of the contents in it. While cleaning out the stacks of things left behind, he came across some older baseball cards. Jim sent us a picture of some 1968 Topps cards, including a Johhny Bench rookie, so of course we set up a meeting. Upon arriving, Jim pulled out a storage box. Inside were 7 original Topps boxes, filled with cards! It appeared the original owner opened the wax packs and placed all the cards right back in the box. The majority of the cards were pack fresh. As seen in the picture, Topps baseball wax boxes from 1968, '69 (x2), '70, and '74 were included. For football, boxes from 1968 and '69 were present. Each box was gone through and a deal was reached. Check out how cool the artwork on these boxes are!

What was included in the boxes?

This collection was exceptionally exciting to go through since, although the years were known, we did not know which cards were included. The baseball portion will be discussed first:

Baseball Cards

1968 Topps: ~200 cards were present, highlighted by Bench RC, Aaron, Mays, Clemente, Seaver, Rose, Carew, Kaline, Gibson, plus 10 '68 Topps game cards with Mantle, Aaron, and Mays

1969 Topps: Being that there were 2 boxes from 1969, this year contained the most cards (~400). Included was just about every major hall of famer, including Mantle, Jackson RC, Ryan, Mays, Aaron, Clemente, Bench, Banks, Rose, Robinson, Seaver, Carew, Yaz, Palmer, and many more. 5 tough to find white letter variations were also found, including Gaylord Perry.

1970 Topps: This box actually contained a mix of 1970 and 71 Topps cards, most of which were mint. Highlights here included Bench, Rose, Seaver, Garvey, Palmer, Yaz, McCovey, Ted Williams, and Bob Gibson.

1974 Topps: This factory set box contained a mix of mid 1970s Topps cards, including a Winfield RC, Ryan, Aaron, and Parker RC.

Football Cards

1968 Topps: This box contained a few stacks of cards from 1967 and '68 Topps cards. For

1967 Topps, Namath, Kemp, Alworth, and a checklist were found. For 1968, Namath, Unitas, Sayer, Dawson, and Starr cards were present.

1970 OJ Simpson Rookie

1970 Topps: This box contained a significant amount of cards from 1969 and '70 Topps. These are were mint and absolutely beautiful. The colors were so rich and vibrant, and corners so razor sharpe, it appeared the original owner opened up packs and placed them directly in the box. Highlights of 1969 Topps were a Piccolo RC, Namath, Unitas, Sayers, Griese, Dawson, Blanda, Butkus, Tarkenton, and a Csonka RC. For 1970 Topps, we found a Simpson RC, Dawson, Starr, Page RC, Sayers, Barney, Tarkenton, Smith RC, Namath, Csonka, Butkus, and a checklist card.
