Lifetime collection of sports cards from 1953-2002 discovered in a Taylor, Michigan storage locker and purchased by Throwback Sports Cards

Trying to sell a large card collection you inherited can be overwhelming, especially when you don’t know much about cards. This situation happened to Laura, and she called us asking for help. A family member passed away and they discovered an enormous collection of cards; enough to take up an entire storage locker. Laura wasn’t sure what she had and didn’t know where to start. After googling sports card buyers in Michigan, she came across our 5 star rating and felt comfortable having us up to evaluate the collection. So we met up and spent most of the day cataloging and pricing the collection. Digging through truly felt like a treasure hunt, as the contents of each box was unknown. An appraisal and fair offer was made, and a deal was struck. There was so much stuff it took 2 trips to get it all! When it comes large collections, we try to make things easy. We buy it all!

Laura stated the family member who accumulated all these cards collected since the 1950s.

It was clear that he had a keen eye for both specific players and condition. One of the more impressive items discovered was a binder of all Hank Aaron cards. Not just some cards but every single Hank Aaron card issued from 1954 to 1976. In addition to the Aaron run, a 1954 Topps complete set was discovered. There were also partial sets of 1953 Topps (highlighted by Mickey Mantle and Satchel Paige) and 1955 Topps (with Ted Williams, Harmon Killebrew, Jackie Robinson, and Hank Aaron). One binder contained a 1986 Fleer basketball set; unfortunately the Jordan RC was missing, but the Jordan sticker was gorgeous. Another binder contained hockey rookies, including Gretzky, Lemieux, and Yzerman.

There were also a ton of cards and sets from the 1980s through 2002. One of the bigger surprises was finding several 1993 SP Derek Jeter rookie cards in a container. After looking closer, there were multiple stacked in the container. In all, there were 13 of them! A run of Topps football complete sets from 1980-1990 were found in a box, along with 2 unopened boxes of 1992 Bowman (Mariano Rivera Rookie year). This collection took a lot of time to review, load up, and sort, but it was definitely worth it!
