We recently were contacted by a family who had a large vintage baseball card collection they inherited. We were told they had about a 100 1941 Playball and Double Play cards. It is always thrilling to go through an untouched collection and this one did not disappoint; over half ended up being hall of famers! There were ~15 Play Ball cards included but it was heavy on star power- 2 Jimmie Foxx's, a Hank Greenberg, a Mel Ott, and 2 Joe Cronin's!
The Double Plays were particularly interesting because this somewhat oddball set is tough to find. This portion of the collection had so many big names, almost every big card was present, and with multiples! It was a real surprise finding 3 Ted William's, 2 Joe Dimaggio's, 3 Gomez/Rizzuto's, 2 Foxx/Cronin's, 5 Greenbergs, 2 Mize/Slaughters, a Bob Feller, 2 Gehringer's, and countless other HOFers.
It was a pleasure to talk with the family about the original owner and we feel truly lucky to have been able to purchase this collection.
If you have any vintage card collection you are looking to sell, please do not hesitate to reach out!
